As nowadays in starting of 2024 Governments are issuing direct indirect signs of more viruses’ threats like COVID-19 so it’s in everybody’s mind about –

“Oncoming dangers of unknown viruses like COVID-19 and how we can be safe from them in years 2024-25 and onwards?”

The COVID-19 pandemic has been the deadliest viral outbreak the world has seen in more than a century, but it may not be the last one.

Experts warn that new variants of the virus, as well as other unknown viruses, could pose a serious threat to global health and security in the near future.

One of the main challenges is that viruses are constantly evolving and mutating, especially when they spread widely and rapidly among humans and animals.

Some of these mutations can give the virus an advantage, such as making it more infectious, more deadly, or more resistant to vaccines and treatments –

For example, the UK variant of COVID-19, which was first detected in late 2020, is estimated to be about 50% more transmissible than the original strain¹.

Another challenge is that there are many viruses that have not yet been discovered or identified, but have the potential to cross the species barrier and infect humans.

These are called zoonotic viruses, and they can originate from various sources, such as rodents, bats, birds, or insects. –

 According to a recent study, there are at least eight never-before-seen viruses that belong to the same family as SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, and have a “high probability” of infecting humans if they ever make the jump².

So how can we prevent or prepare for another pandemic like COVID-19? There are several measures that can be taken at different levels, from individual to global.

• At the individual level, we can protect ourselves and others by following the basic public health guidelines, such as wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining physical distance, and getting vaccinated when possible. We can also avoid contact with sick or dead animals, and report any unusual symptoms or events to health authorities.
• At the community level, we can support local health systems and services, and promote awareness and education about the risks and prevention of infectious diseases. We can also participate in contact tracing and testing programs, and cooperate with quarantine and isolation measures when needed.
• At the national level, we can strengthen our surveillance and response capacities, and invest in research and development of new diagnostics, vaccines, and treatments. We can also implement and enforce strict biosecurity and biosafety standards, and regulate the trade and consumption of wildlife and animal products.
• At the global level, we can enhance our cooperation and coordination, and share information and resources in a timely and transparent manner. We can also support the efforts of international organizations, such as the World Health Organization, and adhere to the international health regulations and norms. We can also foster solidarity and equity, and ensure that all countries and people have access to the tools and technologies needed to fight the pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that we are all connected and vulnerable to the threat of emerging and unknown viruses.

But it has also shown us that we have the power and the responsibility to act together and protect ourselves and our planet.

By taking these steps, we can reduce the oncoming dangers of unknown viruses and be safe from them in years 2024-25 and onwards.
